South Creek Branch Celebrates Years Serving the Community

Hello! My name is Julie Ventura, and it has been my pleasure to serve as the branch manager for the South Creek Branch since its opening on October 27, 2002. On Saturday, October 28, we’ll celebrate our 15th anniversary with an open house. We’ll have music, food and other activities throughout the day.

Over the years South Creek has been a destination for people who want to take a computer class, enjoy an event or listen to a concert. We take pride in offering a variety of programs to entertain and enlighten our community.

I am very proud of the staff here at South Creek. Each person brings a wealth of experience and abilities to the branch, and this diversity helps us to better assist our patrons as they search for materials and information. Whether you’re looking for a new movie or trying to locate an old recipe, in the mood to read a new author or trying to learn to type, we’re here to help.

Our events and classes attract an enormous number of people. We have a variety of events for every age – from wee babies in Tiny Tales to advanced computer classes for adults in QuickBooks, Excel and Photoshop. We offer a variety of active programs as well, including dancing instruction and Zumba! In addition, each week South Creek hosts Tertulia Cuatro Gatos/Spanish Book Club, which began back in 2005 and continues to be a hub for Spanish-speaking people looking for discussion about arts, culture and music. Another long-running event is South Creek’s Music Club, started by branch librarian Reshard Ausserlechner nearly 10 years ago. The Knitting and Crochet Nook, which began meeting about seven years ago, brings in new people each week who want to work as a group to develop new crafting skills.

Our community is made of a large number of people from a variety of backgrounds. While Spanish speakers make up a large part of our population, we welcome people from all over the world. This diversity is one of the factors that makes working at South Creek so interesting.

We will be holding our open house on Saturday, October 28 to thank the members of our community for their support over the years. We’ll have music by local musicians, a tribute to our vets, a craft time and other activities. Stop by and visit! We’ll be happy to see you at South Creek.
