Martin Luther King Jr.'s Birthday

Orange County Library System will be closed Monday, January 18, in observance of Martin Luther King Jr.'s Birthday. The library system will resume current business hours on Tuesday, January 19.

Ancestry Library Edition
Now available from home through March 31, 2021.

Ancestry Library Edition provides easy access to more than 7,000 genealogy databases and 200 billion images with a single search. Collections provide information on individuals from North America, the UK, Europe, Australia, and more. Updates and new content are always being added. U.S. databases include the complete U.S. Census & Index (1790-1940), vital, church, court, and immigration records. Other notable collections include Daughters of the American Revolution Lineage Books; Social Security Death Index (updated monthly); WWI Draft Registration Cards; Federal Slave Narratives; and a strong Civil War collection. The Map Center contains more than 1,000 historical maps. Many international records are available. Canadian collections provide nearly 60 million records from the Census of Canada; and key vital records, such as the Drouin Collection (1621-1967), which includes nearly 30 million baptism, marriage, and burial records from Quebec. The Christian Science Monitor is a highly regarded and award-winning independent international news organization that delivers thoughtful global and U.S. news.  Known for its nonpartisan views and analytical reporting style, the publication provides in-depth coverage of key issues and events across the nation, and around the world. In most cases, full text articles from 1980 to current.

Genealogy Connect (Gale)

Includes genealogy-related topics such as Royal and Noble, Immigration, Native American, and Colonial & Revolutionary. It has intuitive searching options that help researchers find information easily. Gale Genealogy Connect allows users to search across multiple volumes, identifying connections and enriching family history.

HeritageQuest Online

Interested in learning more about your family tree? Beginner and professional genealogists can use this resource to trace family histories and American culture from the comfort of their home. HeritageQuest Online includes the digitized UMI Genealogy & Local History Collection, 1790-1940 U.S. Federal Census, the Revolutionary War Pension and Bounty Land Warrant Application Files, the Freedman’s Bank records and Private Relief Actions, and Memorials and Petitions from the Lexis Nexis® U.S. Serial Set. HeritageQuest Online is designed specifically for people who are either just beginning their family research or who after years of work are still uncovering their past.

National Newspapers Core

ProQuest’s National Newspapers Core offers the most read and respected papers in the United States including associated magazines. Search all the newspapers to quickly find local, regional, and national news.  Choose a tab to search only obituaries or to search a specific newspaper.  Advanced search capabilities are available. Use the “Narrow results by” menu to further tailor your search results. Articles can be printed or e-mailed. Citation information is provided and can be exported or saved as a file. The Christian Science Monitor (1980-present) gives balanced, objective reporting from the most respected field journalists in the industry.

Los Angeles Times (1985-present) offers a perspective of the American West, lauded for its coverage of immigration, entertainment, and environmental issues.

New York Times (June 1, 1980-present) is the paper of record in the U.S., best known for its analysis of news, issues, and social changes.

New York Times Book Review (Jan 19, 1997-present) is a weekly magazine that provides reviews of newly released titles, author interviews and news of the book world. Best seller lists for fiction, non-fiction and paperbacks are available.

New York Times Magazine (Jan 5, 1997-present) a Sunday magazine featuring a wide range of articles on politics, arts, popular culture, science and other topics.

Wall Street Journal, Eastern edition (1984-present) is the single most authoritative source of global and national business and economic reporting.

Wall Street Journal (Online) (Jan 8, 2010 – present) is the electronic version of the most trusted source of business and financial news.

The Washington Post (1987-present) offers ‘Inside the Beltway’ coverage of politics and highly respected investigative journalism.

New York Times

The New York Times is recognized as one of the premier newspapers in the world. Reporting international, national, regional and local news daily, the NYT strives to produce the highest quality content in a timely and responsible manner. Browse by date or search for stories on business, arts, culture, sports, politics, economics and more. Full text articles are available from June 1, 1980 to present. Also available in full text are the New York Times Book Review and the New York Times Magazine.

New York Times Digital Microfilm (2008 to present)

ProQuest Digital Microfilm for the New York Times allows you to retrieve, view, print digitized images. Click on the "Select" Title link and highlight the New York Times. Enter the year and date of a specific issue and navigate within an issue, zoom and position the image to read or print. Photos, graphs, and tables are replicated at the highest possible quality providing cover-to-cover full image content. Take a look at the grey area on top and the left side for customized features.

The Orlando Sentinel is a major newspaper in Orlando, providing local, regional, national and international coverage for the Central Florida region of the state. The Washington Post, an award winning general interest news source since 1877, provides current news and analysis on business, entertainment, politics, sports and more. Coverage includes local, regional, national and international news. Full text articles are available from December 4, 1996 to present; selected articles and indexing available Feb 1, 1988 through Dec 3, 1996.
