ELLIS
An interactive computer based English as a second language program for all learning levels. Native language guides are available in Spanish, Haitian Creole, Portuguese, and Vietnamese for ESL students.
Availability: This software is currently at the Hiawassee, North Orange, Orlando Public Library, South Creek, South Trail, and Winter Garden locations for anyone with an Orange County resident library card, fee card, or PC Pass.

 Rocket Languages
Rocket Languages places an emphasis on conversational learning which will have you speaking the language right from the beginning.
The language learning tools provided include MP3 interactive audio lessons you can use on your computer or transfer to an MP3 device (including iPods), software-based learning games, and fully illustrated language and culture lessons embedded with audio.
Use your library card to access the Rocket Languages site where you can then create an account with Rocket Languages. Languages offered include Arabic, Chinese, French, German, Hindi, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Spanish, American Sign Language, and English instruction for Spanish speakers.

The OverDrive In-Flight and TravelTalk series of language study is designed with travelers in mind. Just type "in-flight" or "traveltalk" into the OverDrive search box to access and download language instruction to your PC, burn to a CD, transfer to your iPod, or use on your MP3 player. Arabic (Egyptian), Chinese (Mandarin), Czech, Euro-Spanish, Farsi (Persian), Filipino (Tagalog), Latin American Spanish, Mexican Spanish, Portuguese (Brazilian), Portuguese (European) languages are available in the In-Flight and TravelTalk series.
For more extensive courses of language study, OverDrive has the VocabuLearn series which covers basics through advanced vocabulary and expressions. Enter "vocabulearn" into the OverDrive search box for titles.
OverDrive offers many languages to learn with VocabuLearn: Armenian, Arabic, Chinese, Danish, Dutch, French, Spanish, Swedish, and Vietnamese.
You can also find the language you want to study in OverDrive by entering the language or series name in the search box.
English as a second language programs for Spanish speakers are also available, by searching under "ingles."

Practice your English pronunciation and improve your reading skills with Reading Companion. This online program provides immediate feedback to the reader through voice recognition software. Using a headset and microphone, students read along on the computer screen assisted by an online "tutor."
Availability: This software is currently at the Southeast, Hiawassee, and South Trail locations during all open language labs for anyone with an Orange County resident library card, fee card, or PC Pass.
Once you've created a Reading Companion account with the Library, you can access the service from home, office, or during any of our open language labs through the Reading Companion's website at www.readingcompanion.com. Reading Companion is PC-based only and is not compatible with MACs at this time.
