TechKrew 2012

Are you techie or do you wanna be? Join the Krew in a fun environment where you can unleash your creative genius. Build your own apps and video games, mix music, design graphics, record, edit and add special effects to movies, build 3D models, explore electronics and much more! Most classes are free to Orange County district resident cardholders, Fee cardholders, and Orange County Property Owner cardholders. Some classes include a fee to cover the cost of used materials. Users who reside outside the Library's service area may attend by paying a non-refundable fee at time of registration prior to class time. Please check event details for applicable fees. Where they apply, registration fees must be paid prior to class time. To pay for your class please call us at 407.835.7323 or visit any of our locations in person. A $5 late cancellation fee will be assessed if cancellation is not made the day prior. Registration is required.

Melrose Teen Camp: Teen Makers Camp »

The Melrose Center will feature week-long, 2-hour camp-style sessions from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Saturday. A materials fee of $25 applies for each camp. Registration is required with a Library card in good standing. Seats are limited, so register today! Go from idea to invention with hands-on training in electronics, basic engineering and robotics. Day 1: 3D Printing: Create a Race Car: With easy-to-use 3D modeling software, design and create a model race car using custom shape and object tools. Learn how to give your 3D objects a realistic look and texture. Day 2: Exploring Circuitry for Teens: Create a personalized model house with a flashing LED! Use electronic components and conductive paint to construct a simple circuit. Learn basic electronics concepts like polarity, switches, conductivity and LEDs. Day 3: Introduction to Electronic Engineering: Build a working circuit using common electronic components and a power source. Learn to identify and calculate properties of resistors and capacitors while using a multimeter on your completed circuit. Day 4: Protoyping with Arduino: Use the Arduino to control custom circuits you construct. Learn the steps to make LEDs blink and a speaker to play music. Experience the potential of this inexpensive and accessible tool. Day 5: Soldering Basics: Decision Kit: Build a simple circuit with a soldering iron and components. Learn to safely use a soldering iron correctly to join components and wires. Day 6: Showcase: Get creative with decorating your race car. Race your cars to the finish line to find out which design is the fastest! You will have a chance to present your race car and projects to your family, friends, and others who will attend the camp's Showcase event. Space is limited.
