RSS

Take an online tutorial and learn how to sign up for ocls.info RSS through your MyYahoo! account.

The Orange County Library System is the first public library to offer RSS (Really Simple Syndication), which is a format designed to distribute or "feed" news and information. Be the first to know about an author coming to the Library, find out about the next book sale, and learn about health and business programs plus more by using the Library's RSS. More feeds will be coming soon but you can grab our General Announcement feed now!

Really Simple Syndication (RSS) is an XML-based format for content distribution. ocls.info will offer several RSS feeds for use in news readers and web logs (blogs). These feeds will include headlines, summaries and links back to ocls.info for the full article. RSS feeds are free and ocls.info currently uses RSS 2.0.

How to access RSS feeds

There are a number of ways to access RSS feeds. You can install a news reader that displays RSS feeds from the Web sites you select, enabling you to view hundreds of headlines at once. After installing the news reader, you can add each feed manually from the Web site by clicking on the "XML" orange button next to the feed and follow the instructions for your specific reader.

If you are using one of the Library computer stations you will not be able to download a dedicated news reader but an alternative to this is to use a Web-based news reader. For example, users of My Yahoo!, Newsgator or other newsreaders can now add RSS feeds directly to their personal page.

How to sign up for the ocls.info RSS feeds

Click on the XML button at the top of the page in the area(s) that you're interested in subscribing to, and follow the instructions to add to your news reader. If you are subscribed to My Yahoo! click on the My Yahoo! button. If you subscribe through Google, click on the Add to Google button. If you are using Newsgator or another newsreader, please follow their instructions.
