Assistant Department/Branch Manager, Orlando Public Library

Course Completed | August 2013

Successfully completed the Case Western Reserve University's online course, Inspiring Leadership Through Emotional Intelligence.  This course examined effective leadership practices through emotional intelligence by reviewing behavioral and neuroscience evidence, completing personal exercises and study individual cases.  The course required a commitment of approximately  6-8 hours per week to complete assigned readings, lecture videos, personal learning assignments and weekly quizzes.  The course was presented from May until August, 2013.

Sunshine State Leadership Institute Graduate | July 2013

Graduated from the 2012-2013 Sunshine State Leadership Institute in July 2013.  The Institute offers an intensive 10 month  learning experience that requires significant time, energy, and commitment from participants and their libraries.  The Sunshine State Leadership Institute is designed to prepare library leaders to serve the residents of Florida in the most effective and innovative manner that will meet today's needs and tomorrow's challenges.

SEFLIN Presenter | July 2013

Presented at the SEFLIN Evolving Library Technologies Conference in Miami on July 11th 2013. Clarke presented on the topic How to Build Your Own E-book Platform from Scratch. She spoke about the specific components of building an eBook platform. She addressed assessing your community needs, defining your library eBook lending business model, constructing a contract and negotiating with vendors. Clarke and colleague Ricardo Viera explained the steps, successes and challenges that OCLS has had in implementing a hosted eBook platform.

Course Completed | May 2013

Successfully completed the online course Leading Strategic Innovation in Organizations offered through Vanderbilt University. This course enriched students with the tools necessary to improve their ability to manage creativity, innovation and change in business by diagnosing potential innovation failures before they can occur. Students learned how to best manage people when innovation is the goal by understanding and managing the people engaged in creation, innovation and positive change, regardless of the context. The course required a commitment of approximately  6-8 hours per week to complete assigned readings, lecture videos, personal learning assignments and weekly quizzes. The course was presented from March until May 2013.

2013 Florida Library Association Presentation | May 2013

Represented OCLS at the 2013 Florida Library Association conference co-presenting with Vera Gubnitskaia and Brittany Nethers; to deliver a presentation titled, "Templates for Partnerships Benefiting Youth". Attendees learned the value of establishing unlikely partnerships and examples of how partnerships are structured. Attendees shared real-life examples of partnerships and insight into how to maintain and evaluate partnerships at an institutional level.
