Music Online

One of the most comprehensive online music resources that cross-searches all of our Alexander Street Press music databases at one time. The publisher aims to provide the most complete database in streaming audio, video, reference, and scores on the Web. Easy to use, and fully searchable, the collection is indexed for by subject, historical event, genre, people, cultural group, place, time period, and ensemble. As a result, you can combine search terms to find exact results to fit your specific needs.

You can also view a single database by using the drop-down menu at the top of the Music Online homepage. The following databases, included in the collection, contain tens of thousands of licensed recordings that you can listen to online.

American Song

A history lesson of music from America's past! This database includes songs by and about American Indians, miners, immigrants, slaves, children, pioneers, and cowboys.The music of all Americans, including African Americans, is now consolidated here in this ever expanding resource.

Classical Music Library

A growing collection of over 60,000 music tracks in a wide range of subjects. You'll find choral works to symphonies, operas to avant-garde, and Medieval pieces to today's contemporary arrangements.

Contemporary World Music

Features genres from all the continents from the familiar such as reggae and worldbeat, to the more obscure types such as flamenco, zydeco, and more. There are close to 200,000 tracks in this database alone!

Jazz Music Library

The largest and most comprehensive collection of streaming jazz available online — with thousands of jazz artists, ensembles, albums, and genres.

Smithsonian Global Sound for Libraries

Produced in partnership with Smithsonian Folkways Recordings, is a virtual encyclopedia of the world's musical and aural traditions. This resource has more than 40,000 individual tracks of music, spoken word, and natural and human-made sounds.
