Read the Books

Read the Books is a quick and easy way to find interesting books for children and young adults based on topic, grade level, or time period. This resource can be used by kids, parents, or teachers to discover new books, authors, series, or genres. The description page for each book includes its cover, a video review, summary, awards, and user recommendations. Books are linked to the library's catalog, which makes finding the book at the nearest library location or reserving online fast and simple!

Students enrolled in most Orange County schools can find the Accelerated Reader lists for their school in Read the Books. Lists are periodically updated and are usually the most recent available.

Features include:

  • Search and sort by grade level: Pre-K to 8th grade or choose "Young Adult"
  • Early Readers: Browse books by early grade levels, subjects, and themes
  • TimeGate: Search by century and decade, or explore the future
  • USA Books: Find books that take place in a specific U.S. state, like Florida!

Read the Books is a unique reader's advisory tool for kids or parents who need to quickly find a good book. For children or young adults who do not like to read, use this resource to engage their interests and discover books they will enjoy.

For more great summer reads, check out the Kids in Summer LibGuide and the Summer Reading Program!

This resource is found in the Books and Literature section of the Online Databases and can be used with other useful tools, like NoveList Plus, TumbleBooks, or TumbleBookCloud.

Available with your library card and PIN from all library computers and from your home or office computer. For more information about applying for a library card, visit Get Your Card.
