NetLibrary Downloadable Audiobooks Quick Start Guide

Want to hear a good book now? Our NetLibrary downloadable audiobooks are just the thing! No waiting for new fiction, non-fiction, classic titles or even language learning! You can access hundreds of downloadable audiobooks through our collection. All titles are available in their unabridged versions.

Downloadable audiobooks are available for downloading to PC computer and are compatible with most portable devices supporting Windows Media Player 9 or higher, Musicmatch Jukebox v8.2 and above, or Nullsoft Winamp v5 and above. Downloadable audiobooks require Internet Explorer, Netscape, Mozilla, Firefox, or Opera. NetLibrary info for AOL users.

Access NetLibrary downloadable audiobooks through a library catalog search , this list, which is updated regularly, or directly from NetLibrary. Get instructions on how to download an audiobook or on how to transfer an audiobook from your computer to a portable listening device.

Downloading a NetLibrary Audiobook

Before downloading a NetLibrary audiobook, create your NetLibrary account.

Step 1: Search in the library catalog or in NetLibrary for the title you wish to download.

Step 2: Once you've decided on a title, click on Download this Audiobook.


Step 3: Select the quality of the audiobook. CD quality is for use with high-speed Internet access. Radio quality provides fast download speed for users with dial-up connections. (Note: If you are planning on transferring the audiobook to a portable device, you must download the CD quality version.)


Step 4: Log into your NetLibrary account. (If you do not have a NetLibrary account you will be prompted to create one.)


Step 5: You will be prompted to open or save the audiobook to your desktop. Save it to your desktop or a folder of your choice. (If you don't designate a location to save the file to, it will be saved to a default folder which may be more difficult to find later.)


Step 6: You can now play the audiobook or save the file for later. You will have it on your desktop for 21 days. The first time you play the audiobook you will be prompted to acquire the license by entering the username and password you created for your NetLibrary account.

After the license is acquired you'll get a confirmation that shows how long you'll have the title checked out.

 

Transferring an Audiobook to a Portable Listening Device

Once the audiobook is on your desktop and you've acquired the license, you can transfer it to a portable device.

Step 1: Attach your portable listening device to your computer (please follow the manufacture's instructions for attaching the device to your computer.

Step 2: With the audiobook open in Windows Media Player in the Now Playing list, right-click on the audiobook title, select Add to, and click on Sync List.

Step 2: Click on the Sync tab in the top right corner of the Windows Media Player.

 

Step 3: You should see the book title on the left in the Sync List and you should see the contents of your portable listening device on the right. Click on Start Sync to transfer the audiobook to your portable device.

Step 4: After the transfer is complete, you can detach your portable device from your computer (please follow the manufacturer's instructions for detaching your portable device).

You are now ready to listen to the audiobook on the go!
