Mad Scientist (June 16-21)

Balance science and fun with interactive, hands-on electromagnetism and solar power projects. Capacity: 12

Day 1: Exploring Electromagnets: Use Snap Circuits to explore the basics of electromagnetism while you build electromagnets and experiment with metal objects. Explore the basic science of electromagnets and how they impact our everyday lives. Build an electromagnetic motor to take home!

Day 2: Squishy Circuits: Create circuits and explore electronics using conductive dough. Make your Squishy Animal come to life with lights! Learn to make the dough from safe non-toxic household items.

Day 3: 3D Design and JitterBots: Use 3D design software and a 3D printer to customize a simple robot. Build a complete JitterBot with motors, batteries and LED lights.

Day 4: Exploring Solar Power: Use Snap Circuits to explore the power of the sun while you build solar powered alarms, radios, and experiment with light levels. Explore the basic science of solar power and how they impact our everyday lives. Build a BugBot powered by the sun.

Day 5: Exploring Radio Electronics: Use Snap Circuits to explore the basics of radio electronics while you build AM transmitters, AM radios and FM radios. Explore the basic science and radio waves and how they impact our everyday lives. With simple components, create your own AM radio to take with you anywhere!

Day 6: BattleBots: Battle to the finish with your JitterBots on the last day of the camp. Show off your designs and projects to your family, friends and others who will attend the camp's Showcase event.

Media Producers (June 30-July 5)

Experience the media arts with hands-on projects in photography, graphic design, audio production and video production. Work in teams or on solo projects. Capacity: 12

Day 1: Photo Shoot Fun: Work as a team to create photo studio images. Learn how to take pictures with photo studio equipment and lighting set ups. Use Adobe Photoshop to enhance your images and apply cool looking effects and filters.

Day 2: Create Comics Using Pen Tablets: Use a Wacom Pen Tablet to design comic book characters. Learn how to composite your images and drawings using Adobe Photoshop.

Day 3: Audio Studio Fun: Become a voice-over actor! Participate in a group recording session in our professional-grade studio. Learn about microphones, acoustics, and using computers to work on audio files. Take home a copy of your finished file.

Day 4: Light Camera Action: Learn how to operate professional studio video cameras, recording a short film of yourself, and showcase your movie on television screen.

Day 5: Closed (Holiday)

Day 6: Media Extravaganza: Get a chance to showcase your talents to yor families and friends.

Future Engineers (July 14-19)

Engage in engineering activities to build machines, electronics and 3D objects. Capacity: 12

Day 1: Soldering Basics: Maker Buttons: Build a simple circuit with a soldering iron and components. Learn to safely use a soldering iron correctly to join components and wires.

Day 2: Flight Simulator: Introduction to Aeronautics: The tower has now cleared you to land! Learn to fly with Microsoft Simulator and learn to use realistic flight controls. Come in and land yourself into a pilot's seat at the Simulation Lab; immerse yourself in a world of virtual flight.

Day 3: Create a Custom Glider with the Silhouette Cutter: Create a customized Glider using the Silhouette Cameo electronic cutting machine. Learn the basics of Silhouette Studio graphic design software including adding shapes, designs and text.

Day 4: Exploring Machines, Motion and Engineering: Use K'NEX construction system to build machines such as transmissions, drag racers, cranes, rocket launchers, and more. Make learning about simple machines, motion and engineering fun with hands-on building. Design stabilizers and build a simple helicopter project.

Day 5: Introduction to Electronic Engineering: Build a working circuit using common electronic components and a power source. Learn to identify and calculate properties of resistors and capacitors while using a multimeter on your completed circuit.

Day 6: Melrose Air Show: Your aeronautic designs steal the show! Compete with your planes, gliders and helicopters on the last day of the camp. Show off your designs and projects to your family, friends, and others who will attend the camp's Showcase event.

Day 2: Personalized Stickers with Silhouette Studio: Create a customized vinyl sticker using the Silhouette Cameo electronic cutting machine. Learn the basics of Silhouette Studio graphic design software including adding shapes, designs and text.

Day 3: Custom Cookie Cutters & 3D Printing: Use a simple online tool to design your own custom cookie cutter. See your design come to life as it is created on one of our 3D printers.

Day 4: Photo Booth and Button Maker: Create buttons using photos and a button press. Customize the look of your buttons with graphic design and photo editing software.

Day 5: Build a LED Night Light: Create a customized night light using the Silhouette Cameo electronic cutting machine. Create a basic circuit while learning simple circuitry and electronics.

Day 6: Showcase: The spotlight is on you! On the last day of the camp, you'll have a chance to present your awesome projects to your family, friends, and others who will attend the camp's Showcase event. Share what you have learned about Electronic Engineering!

Young Makers (June 9-14)

Day 1: 3D Printing: Create a Race Car: With easy-to-use 3D modeling software, design and create a model race car using custom shape and object tools. Learn how to give your 3D objects a realistic look and texture.

Day 2: Exploring Circuitry for Teens: Create a personalized model house with a flashing LED! Use electronic components and conductive paint to construct a simple circuit. Learn basic electronics concepts like polarity, switches, conductivity and LEDs.

Day 3: Introduction to Electronic Engineering: Build a working circuit using common electronic components and a power source. Learn to identify and calculate properties of resistors and capacitors while using a multimeter on your completed circuit.

Day 4: Protoyping with Arduino: Use the Arduino to control custom circuits you construct. Learn the steps to make LEDs blink and a speaker to play music. Experience the potential of this inexpensive and accessible tool.

Day 5: Soldering Basics: Decision Kit: Build a simple circuit with a soldering iron and components. Learn to safely use a soldering iron correctly to join components and wires.

Day 6: Showcase: Get creative with decorating your race car. Race your cars to the finish line to find out which design is the fastest! You will have a chance to present your race car and projects to your family, friends, and others who will attend the camp's Showcase event.

Audio Production (June 23-28)

Get hands-on experience in audio production! Work with experienced instructors and a team of students to create the soundtrack for a movie trailer. Use our state-of-the-art studio, including the Avid C-24 Control Surface, to record dialogue and polish your project. Showcase your work at the end of the week and take home a USB-bracelet with your final project file. Capacity: 12

Day 1: Introduction & Spotting: Learn about the project and Pro Tools. "Spot" your video by identifying specific parts where you want audio.

Day 2: Room Tone: Learn about "room tone," a foundational sound bed that gives audio a sense of realism, and then add it to your project.

Day 3: Sound Effects & Music: Add foreground sound effects and music to your project

Day 4: Dialogue: In the Audio Studio, record dialogue and then add it to your project.

Day 5: Automation & Mixing: Polish your project using the Avid C-24 Control Surface.

Day 6: Present Project: Screen your final project in the Tech Central presentation area.

Video Production (July 7-12)

Write, produce, shoot and edit like the pros in your first video clip in our state-of the art video production studio. Capacity: 12

Day 1: Lights, Camera, Action: Learn the basic operations and settings of the video studio cameras, as well as general care and use of a camera. Learn about film set positions and be assigned one of these roles.

Day 2: Storyboard Development and Documentation: Work in small teams to develop a script and storyboard for short segments to be filmed. Shoot behind-the-scenes footage of the development process.

Day 3: Production Day 1: Begin filming scripted and storyboarded segments using studio cameras and equipment. Continue shooting behind-the-scenes footage.

Day 4: Production Day 2/Editing Day 1: Continue filming from Day 3. Learn how to make your video look more professional by adding a wide range of pre-built effects, transitions, titles, and more in Adobe Premiere.

Day 5: Editing Day 2 (Audio Mixing): Edit audio and video track straight from Adobe Premiere. Remove unwanted sounds, arrange and mix clips, and accomplish other common sound editing tasks.

Day 6: Movie Screening Event: It's your time to shine. Bring your family and friends to showcase your movie on big screen.

Photo and Graphic Design (July 21-26)

Join other teens to design and create your very own comic book. Along the way you'll learn about storyboarding, photo studio equipment, photo editing, typography, pen tablets, button making, and so much more! Capacity: 12

Day 1: Intro to Cameras and Storyboarding: Design and create a storyboard to begin crafting scenes for your comic book. Learn about DSLR cameras and lenses.

Day 2: Photo Shoot and Editing: Work as a team to create photo studio images. Learn how to work with photo studio equipment and lighting set ups. Use Adobe Photoshop to enhance your images and apply effects and filters.

Day 3: Design and Typography Using Adobe Illustrator: Design a logo, action words, and speech bubbles for your comic book using Adobe Illustrator. Create a custom pin-backed badge using one of your designs!

Day 4: Digital Graphics Using Pen Tablets: Use a Wacom Pen Tablet to design a cover for your comic book. Composite images and drawings using Adobe Photoshop.

Day 5: Desktop Publishing Using Adobe InDesign: Design the layout of each page in your comic book in Adobe InDesign. Adjust page setup options to prepare it for printing. Print and assemble your comic book.

Day 6: Showcase: The spotlight is on you! On the last day of the camp, you'll have a chance to present your awesome comic book and story to your family, friends, and others who will attend the camp's Showcase event. You may even have a chance to hear from members of Orlando's comics community!
