Book Reviews

Wednesday, June 08, 2016 at Alafaya Branch

Every author who submits his or her book for review hopes for those five beautiful stars. Unfortunately, mistakes in many areas can lower a book's rating. Find out how to avoid these common writing traps and give readers (and reviewers) exactly what they want with book reviewer and author, Leslie C. Halpern. Leslie will share examples from books she's reviewed with common errors that kept them from obtaining a 5-star review, and will also share examples from books that achieved 5-star status. A book reviewer for Blue Ink Review, Indie Reader, My Shelf, Midwest Book Review, and other publications, Leslie has been a professional book reviewer and movie reviewer since 1980. In addition to writing reviews, Leslie is an award-winning poet and author herself, with several nonfiction books published (including the upcoming fall 2016 release of 200 Love Lessons from the Movies) and the Funny Children's Poems book series. She earned an M.L.S. degree from Rollins College and a B.A. in Journalism from University of Kentucky. She is a member of Florida Writers Association, Writers-Editors Network, Florida State Poets Association, and the National Federation of State Poetry Societies. #writers
