Cooking Inspiration at Your Library
Tuesday, July 21, 2015 at West Oaks Branch
Welcome to the Cookbook-Cooking Club! If you love browsing through cookbooks, reading recipes or even trying out new and different dishes, this cooking club is for you! Here are the details on how to participate. Visit the West Oaks Library Branch and check out a cookbook from our display, select a recipe and register for the program. On Tuesday, July 21 at 6 p.m. we'll meet, dine and discuss our recipes. Our dish for July is Appetizers. History Moment - Appetizers and Hors d'oeuvre: Appetizers and hors of d'oeuvre (meaning "outside of the work") assume a wide variety of forms in American dining. Appetizers and hors d'oeuvre commonly treated as finger foods offered at cocktail parties and receptions, while Americans also use appetizers to indicate the first course eaten when seated at table in a three course (appetizer, main course, and dessert) meal. Nearly all cultures have indulged in bite-sized foods designed to prepare the appetite for a more substantial meal. The ancient Greeks and Romans sampled bits of fish, seasoned vegetables, cheese, and olives.
