Welcome to the Technology @ OCLS July 2011 Newsletter. Independence Day is Monday the 4th and all library locations will be closed in observance on July 3 and 4. Camp Savvy classes will continue to be offered for kids 6 to 12 years old and teens 13 to 18 years old, throughout July! In addition, take advantage of the opportunity to attend an in-person computer class at any of our library locations or virtually from your home or office computer!

.: Cloud Computing

Learn how Cloud Computing can eliminate the need to install and run software applications on your personal or business computer. Many Web apps are available free of charge and are accessible from any computer with Internet access. Start with Introduction to Cloud Computing and continue with our Cloud Computing series such as Photoshop Online, QuickBooks Online, and storing files online!

.: Camp Savvy 2011

Camp Savvy is a series of computer classes geared toward children ages 6-12, and teens ages 13-18. Kids will learn how to create Cartoon Avatars or mix music using Audacity! Teens will learn to direct, produce, and edit movies or start a blog using WordPress! Enroll and be eligible to win GREAT PRIZES!

Enter your library card information to access our Self-Paced Online Classes and take advantage of computer lessons from our most popular classes. .: Small Business Course Tracks

Select a course track that suits your small business interests to learn the latest computer software programs and run your business more efficiently. We provide computer software training on Microsoft Office to create documents and spreadsheets, QuickBooks to manage your finances, HTML to setup a website, Adobe Photoshop to design logos and artwork, and Computer Networking to understand basic networking concepts. Just in time for summer reading! The Read the Books database gives you many book suggestions for your children, from preschool up to young adult. The search function provides normal book search options such as topics, grade level, and author, as well as fun ways to search. You can select books that take place in certain states and use “TimeGate!” which allows you to search for books based on the time period they took place!

.: Free Wi-Fi at all OCLS Locations!

The Orange County Library System offers wireless Internet access in all of our locations. You just need your library card number, in good standing and clear of all fines, and a PIN to get unlimited Wi-Fi access. To get started using the wireless network, first connect to PublicWireless and then log in with your card number and PIN. For additional information please visit the library’s website.
