Welcome to the Technology @ OCLS May 2009 Newsletter. Get connected to everything the Library has to offer this month. Check out our wireless printing services, mobile services, and attend any of our mind stimulating computer classes currently being offered.

What's New

.: Now You Can Print Wirelessly Too!

You asked for it, now here it is. Wireless printing at your Library! When you bring your personal laptop into the Library, you can install printing software to use on your computer as if you were on the Library’s computer. At this time, printing options are only available with PC laptops in select locations, so ask a staff member for more information.

.: Learn how to Discover Your Family History with our Genealogy eGuide

Are there family stories about a great grandmother who was a Cherokee Indian? Do you want to know if an ancestor fought in the Civil War, or if another was on the Mayflower? If so, this Genealogy eGuide will help you make the most out of the resources available in our genealogy collection. The Genealogy eGuide is also available in a text-only format and has a Links Basket so you can print out or e-mail your list of selected links.

Learn how to create professional looking Web sites quickly and easily.

Introduction to iPhoto
Learn how to better manage your digital photo collections.

Introduction to iWork: Pages
Learn how to create and edit documents using this word processing application.

Introduction to iWork: Keynote
Learn how to create and edit presentations using this presentation application.

iWork: Numbers Series
Learn how to use tables and basic tools to create a simple spreadsheet. Manipulate data and graphics by inserting and deleting data; adding charts and shapes; and inserting formulas.

Create Forms using Microsoft Office 2007
Learn how to create basic forms for business and personal use. Make the forms easy to use by adding text boxes, date pickers, and drop-down lists.

Online Class:  Microsoft Excel 2007 Charts & Graphs
Learn how to create professional looking charts and graphs using Microsoft Excel 2007.

Online Class:  Microsoft Excel 2007 Pivot Tables
Learn how to create Pivot Tables and Pivot Charts to organize and manipulate data.

EduGaming Extreme Technology for Teens
The Library is offering a new game design workshop for teens (ages 13-18). Learn how to create a game proposal and develop a game prototype using a Mac computer. This workshop runs for seven consecutive sessions from June 7 to June 14 at 2p.m.-4p.m. each day. Class size is limited, sign up online today!

Camp Savvy 2009
Surf the Library’s wave this summer and attend our Camp Savvy computer classes. Learn how to create and edit your movies and photos, create cool presentations, improve your book report and research paper writing skills, explore Mac computer applications, and much more. When you take our computer savvy classes, you’ll become eligible to WIN COOL PRIZES so register today!

Forgotten Math Seminar by Sylvan Learning Center
Research shows that it is now more important than ever for students to receive solid math instruction in early grades so they can rise to the challenge of Algebra and more complex math in later grades. On June 13th, this interactive seminar will share some tricks of the trade to help you raise a confident math student. Three FREE Sylvan Math Diagnostic Assessments will be awarded by raffle at the end of the seminar.

Citizenship Inspired Expands to More Library Locations
Citizenship Inspired is underway and empowering immigrants who have settled in Central Florida to be fully prepared to pass the U.S. Naturalization Test and thereby become full citizens. This 6-week program allows students to meet once each week to prepare to pass all of the components of the Naturalization Test. Students will combine learning over the Internet with in-class discussions. Since a significant portion of the Test relates to speaking, writing, and reading skills; students will also be given access to language learning services to help improve their English abilities.
