Welcome to the Technology @ OCLS May 2008 Newsletter. This month, use the Libraryís resources to prepare for Motherís Day celebrations, learn more about National Music Week and to view the many resources available for test preparation. In addition, take advantage of the opportunity to attend computer classes at any of our Library locations or virtually from your home or office computer.

Orange County is going green! Explore our Go Green! Virtual Gallery to find out all the ways you can go green as well. Test your recycling knowledge through our game!

Experience National Music Week and take a walk through the music history timeline jukebox. There are many other resources such as books, DVDs, magazines, and Web sites, all devoted to music!

     Featured Classes of the Month

Do you need to create a visual presentation for a school or work-related project? If so, the Orange County Library System offers Microsoft PowerPoint classes that can help! The Microsoft PowerPoint series teaches you how to create exciting slide shows with graphics, animations, and multimedia that will leave your audience in awe. We look forward to seeing you this month in one of our classes!

Microsoft PowerPoint Level 1
Learn presentation concepts and terminologies.  Become familiar with the PowerPoint environment and create a presentation using slides.
Recommended Prerequisite: Microsoft Word Level I 

Microsoft PowerPoint Level 2
Use Microsoft PowerPoint’s master template to customize presentation slides and handouts.  Recommended Prerequisite: Microsoft PowerPoint Level 1

Microsoft PowerPoint Level 3
Learn how to use slide transitions and animations in Microsoft PowerPoint. Learn how to add animated effects and action buttons to presentations. Recommended Prerequisite: Microsoft PowerPoint Level 1

Microsoft PowerPoint Level 4
Create a Photo Album with digital photos and sound using Microsoft PowerPoint.
Recommended Prerequisite: Microsoft PowerPoint Level 3

During May 4th through the 9th and May 18th through May 23rd you can attend the Microsoft training series in Word, Excel, Publisher, PowerPoint, Access, and Outlook. Space is limited, so register today!

Microsoft Publisher Series – May 4 and May 18
This two-class series introduces you to features which can be used when creating professional publications such as newsletters, calendars, and business cards.

Microsoft Word Series – May 5 and May 23
This six-class series introduces you to features which can be used when creating professional documents, including inserting and formatting tables, as well as mail merge.

Microsoft PowerPoint Series – May 8 and May 19
This four-class series introduces you to features which can be used when creating professional slide shows with animations and slide transitions.

Microsoft Excel Series – May 6 and May 21
This six-class series introduces you to features which can be used when creating professional spreadsheets that include formulas, charts, and pivot tables.

Microsoft Access Series – May 7 and May 22
This five-class series introduces you to features which can be used when creating a database to track and present data with tables, queries, forms, and reports.

Microsoft Outlook Series – May 9 and May 20
This four-class series introduces you to features which can be used when creating e-mails, appointments, contact lists, folders, and tasks assignments.

The Orange County Library System is pleased to offer our customers the Smithsonian Global Sound as a streaming music service. This collection represents an extraordinary array of more than 40,000 individual tracks of music, spoken word, natural and man-made sound.
