Welcome to the Technology @ OCLS April 2008 Newsletter. This month, use the Library’s resources to free yourself from financial burdens and to celebrate National Poetry Month. In addition, take advantage of the opportunity to attend computer classes at any of our Library locations or virtually from your home or office computer.

     Featured Classes of the Month

Microsoft Word is one of the most frequently used software applications today. It helps users create professional-looking content ranging from personal letters to business documents. The Library offers a variety of classes that cover the different features of this application. Click on the class title for additional information. Be sure to register today!

Microsoft Word Level 1
Learn word-processing concepts and terminologies. Become familiar with the Microsoft Word environment and create a simple letter using basic Word features. Recommended Prerequisite: Computer Basics Level I

Microsoft Word Level 2
Apply word-processing concepts to documents. Create professional and effective reports using graphics and clipart in Microsoft Word. Recommended Prerequisite: Microsoft Word Level 1

Microsoft Word Level 3
Learn how to create letters and labels using Microsoft Word’s Mail Merge Wizard to combine multiple documents for mass mailing. Recommended Prerequisite: Microsoft Word Level 2

Microsoft Word Level 4
Learn how to create and format tables using Microsoft Word. Recommended Prerequisite: Microsoft Word Level 2

Writing Business Letters
Create a business letter using Microsoft Word’s Letter Wizard Template featuring various letter styles and writing techniques. Recommended Prerequisite: Microsoft Word Level 1

Resume Writing

Microsoft Publisher Series – April 6
This two-class series introduces the basic to advanced features for creating professional publications such as newsletters, calendars, and business cards.

Microsoft Word Series – April 7
This six-class series introduces the basic to advanced features for creating professional documents, including inserting and formatting tables, as well as mail merge.

Microsoft PowerPoint Series – April 8
This four-class series introduces the basic to advanced features for creating professional slide shows with animations and slide transitions.

Microsoft Excel Series – April 9
This six-class series introduces the basic to advanced features for creating professional spreadsheets that include formulas, charts, and pivot tables.

Microsoft Access Series – April 10
This five-class series introduces the basic to advanced features for creating a database to track and present data with tables, queries, forms, and reports.

Microsoft Outlook Series – April 11
This four-class series introduces the basic to advanced features for creating e-mails, appointments, contact lists, folders, and tasks assignments.

TumbleReadables.com provides an online collection of titles for elementary, middle school, and high school students which features adjustable online text and audio narration. Sentences are highlighted as they are being read and the pages turn automatically.
