Welcome to the Technology @ OCLS November 2007 Newsletter. This month, use the Library’s resources to explore the ancient history and culture of Florida, hear a book on the new CD format and find out how to create maps and reports for your business or personal needs. Also expand your computer skills by taking either an online class or attend a class at one of our locations!

What's New

.: Checkout Our Latest Audiobook Format

So what is an MP3 CD? It is a book on compact disc in MP3 format. Generally books that would normally take 10-12 discs are now on one disc. You can also download them to your computer and put them on your portable MP3 player (even your iPod!). Take a look at all the MP3 CDs that are available for checkout from select locations.

Learn all about Native Americans through our Virtual Gallery which has some new features. It now includes a section for kids and teens as well as areas for educators, recommended reading, history & culture, library resources, Native Americans today, and a map that displays where the tribes lived in Florida with links to information about the tribes.

SimplyMap lets users create maps and reports using powerful demographic, business, and marketing data. Using SimplyMap you can locate and combine information on facts such as ages, ethnicity, spending patterns, date, county, city or zip code.

From November 11th through the 16th you can attend the Microsoft training series in Word, Excel, Publisher, PowerPoint, Access and Outlook. Space is limited, so register today!

Microsoft Publisher Series – November 11
This two-class series introduces the basic to advanced features for creating professional publications such as newsletters, calendars and business cards.

Microsoft Word Series - November 13
This four-class series introduces the basic to advanced features for creating professional documents including inserting and formatting tables as well as mail merge.

Microsoft Excel Series - November 14
This six-class series introduces the basic to advanced features for creating professional spreadsheets which include formulas, charts and pivot tables.

Microsoft Access Series - November 15
This five-class series introduces the basic to advanced features for creating a database to track and present data with tables, queries, forms and reports.

Microsoft PowerPoint Series – November 16
This four-class series introduces the basic to advanced features for creating professional slide shows with animations and slide transitions.

Web Design Basics
Learners will gain knowledge of web design process, web standards, and code validation. Recommended Prerequisite: Computer Basics Level 1

Advanced Image Editing Using GIMP
Edit and restore digital photographs. Learn how to use selections as well as layer masks. Recommended Prerequisite: Edit Digital Images Using Gimp.
