On May 9th, the new ocls.info will arrive! All webpages and URLs in the www.ocls.info website* will change as we switch to our new and improved site. When this happens, bookmarks, favorites, and links to this page may cease to work OR may redirect you to a page on the new site which contains similar content. Take a sneak peek at the new site!

Beating the Bushes: Using the GPS to Find Jacob Bush's Father

Sunday, May 08, 2016 at West Oaks Branch Registration Required

Genealogy Special Event! The West Oaks Branch Library and Genealogy Center is proud to present nationally known genealogical speaker and educator Elissa Scalise Powell, CG, CGL, a western Pennsylvania researcher and co-director of the Genealogical Research Institute of Pittsburgh (GRIP). She is the immediate past-president of the Board for Certification of Genealogists; an instructor for Boston University's Genealogical Research Certificate course; and coordinator of Samford University's IGHR "Professional Genealogy" course. This lecture session will help you to understand the Genealogical Proof Standard so that you can ensure that you are meeting the minimum standard for credibility in your own personal research. Come explore case studies and examples that will enable you to develop skills and insights on how you can further your own research. Eli Bush's grandfather was reported to be Daniel Bush, but was his father Jacob? Come see the research process unfold as land, probate, census, tax lists and church records are correlated. Watch out for pitfalls such as different men with the same name and other red herrings in this interactive session. #genealogy

About the Branch

The construction of the West Oaks Branch was funded by the Library System and a Florida Library Construction Grant.

A special feature at West Oaks is the sculpture "The Squid Squad" by local artist Vince Sansone. The piece won "Best in Show" at the 1999 Fiesta in the Park. The Fiesta Committee purchased the sculpture and donated it to the Library.
