Her Smile
By
Danielle M. Procope
Her smile
Makes a rainbow seem dull
On the sunniest day
She smiles
And other people smile with her
Because her smile makes people feel happy
If she can be so happy
They can try to be happy too
Her smile
Lives in the face of death
She smiles
To put a smile on other people’s faces
So people won’t be bothered to feel sorry for her
Because her smile
Is like a star
It shines in the darkness
Even though she’s been crying
She dries her tears
And she smiles
And her smile
Fools people into thinking that she’s never been through a storm
That she hasn’t had her abyss
That she has never cried
Because she has a such a beautiful smile
Such a genuinely happy smile
But she’s smiling so she’ll forget the pain
That awaits her when she’s alone in the dark
Her smile
Makes her forget the troubles that she has to face
And their smile helps her forget too
So her smile
Keeps her alive when she wants to be dead
Because of the pain of living
But she knows that she’ll make it through
Because her smile
Puts a smile on other people’s faces
So people won’t be bothered to feel sorry for her
Because her smile
Is like a star
It shines in the darkness
