Donate to the Library
There are many ways in which you may support the Library through donations of money or time! The Orange County Library System is a 501(c)3 organization under the IRS Code and your donations may be tax deductable. Please consider supporting the Library through one of the following opportunities.
Donations
Funds can be donated to the Library’s general operations or may be designated for a particular area of interest. Funds donated to the Library are used to support:
- Technology Development
- Children’s Services
- Programs and Educational Outreach
- General Library Services

Wills & Bequests
Including the Library in your will allows you to carry your commitment to the Library beyond your lifetime. Your attorney, accountant or trust officer will work with you to design a bequest that fits your situation and meets your goals. A professional will also make sure you receive the tax benefits allowed for your gift. If you already have a will, it may be amended by a codicil to include the Library. The following is sample bequest phrasing:
I give out bequeath (Dollar Amount, Property to be Given, Percentage or Remainder) to the Orange County Library System, an organization registered with the IRS under IRS code 501(c)3.
Donating Books
We accept donations of books and other materials at all of our locations. Though from time to time we may add an item to our collection, we generally pass the donations along to our Friends of the Library. They then sell items in their bookstore on the third floor of the Main Library or in our Branches. The Friends then generously donate the proceeds back to the Library to support programs and services.
Any location will be happy to accept your donation and provide you with a receipt. If you have a particularly large donation, you might want to consider bringing it to the Main Library. We have a loading dock on Wall Street (the back of the Library building) and staff can assist you Monday through Friday, between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m.
